Derek Farrell is the author of five Danny Bird Mystery novels and a novella. His short fiction has appeared in Gabba Gabba Hey an anthology of fiction inspired by the music of the Ramones, Sharpen Fist Here and Noir from The Bar. He is also the crime fiction programming director for the award-winning WORDfest Crawley, an editor and one seventh of the team behind Interview Room One.

His previous jobs have included: Burger dresser, Bank teller, David Bowie’s paperboy, and Investment Banker, which gave him the opportunity to live and work in New York, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Prague, Dublin, Johannesburg and London. It also gave him the opportunity to see investment bankers up close and decide that one of them had to die in one of the Danny books, but that’s perhaps a story for another day.

Derek can trace his love of crime fiction to his dad, who took him to the library as soon as he could walk and introduced him to The Three Investigators, The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. From there, it was a natural progression to Christie, Chandler, Hammett, and onwards to anything that features a crime a caper or a cadaver waiting to be investigated. Derek loves everything from a dark gritty Noir to a fast-paced High Concept Page turner and his To Be Read pile is rapidly taking over the house.

Derek lives in West Sussex with his husband David and Rosie the cutest Cockapoo puppy in Crawley, who moonlights as a Jon Snow lookalike and is available for photoshoots at Game of Thrones Conventions.
